10 tips from us to you

Renovating your bathroom can be a big and expensive task, despite the fact that it is often one of the smallest rooms in the house. As we are talking about wet room zones and various legal requirements, it is important that you get a contractor to help with the task. If you have thrown yourself into a DIY project, there is no insurance that covers if it suddenly drips in the basement or fungus grows in the walls. There are many possibilities when you embark on such a project and therefore we have made a list with our 10 tips for the initial phase of a bathroom project.

Our 10 tips:
  1. Prepare as thoroughly as possible before the first meeting with the craftsmen. Show pictures for inspiration, draw and tell. The more information you can provide, the easier it is for the craftsmen to give you an accurate price.
  2. Choice of tiles, placement of fittings, toilet and bathroom furniture can play a role in terms of price and delivery. As a general rule, if you order something that is not standard, the delivery time will be longer.
  3. If a new floor is to be poured, it gives you greater flexibility in relation to the placement of fixtures, toilets and furniture. New pipes can be laid in the floor before casting, so there are many options for optimizing the layout of your bathroom.
  4. Remember that unidrains come in many different sizes and shapes. Ask your craftsman about the options so that you can place your shower niche in the best possible way and get the look you want.
  5. If you want built-in fittings, you must expect extra costs for milling in new pipes and the built-in part.
  6. Tiles in shower areas must be set up according to legal requirements, which are 2.30 in height in single-family houses and 2.50 in apartments in multi-storey buildings.
  7. Bathrooms that are less than 3.25 m2 are considered one large wet room zone.
  8. Get a timetable made in collaboration with the craftsmen, so you know exactly when your bathroom will be finished.
  9. Since there are many different craft groups that have to take on such a project, we recommend that you choose a general contractor. It can be quite a task to coordinate all craft groups.
  10. Contact the municipality to find out if you need a building permit.

When you have mastered the purely construction-technical steps, you can start to decide on the style for the bathroom, including colours, choice of tiles and, not least, interior design. Regardless of whether your style is modern and Nordic or bohemian , both tiles, fittings and furniture will play a role in the overall expression.
