Terrazzo tiles are very beautiful and robust – and fortunately they are easy to clean if you know how to do it correctly. Because the terrazzo tiles are made of cement and marble, the most important things you should pay attention to are: you must not try to wash the floor with limescale removers or other acidic products.
Because marble is a type of lime, stay away from acidic, harsh chemicals, including detergents and other products, as you risk dissolving or damaging the tiles. It is therefore important that you find the right product, which can dissolve limescale and dirt, and at the same time maintain the terrazzo as best as possible.
You must also remember to clean your terrazzo floor as often as possible, in this way you avoid the accumulation of lime in particular, which can be difficult to remove without harsh chemicals. If you have terrazzo tiles in the shower niche, it can also be advantageous to mop or wipe the tiles after bathing.
If the surface of the tiles is excessively covered by dirt, lime or other wear and tear – then you can consider whether you should polish or grind your terrazzo floor. Read more in our guide to sanding terrazzo floors .
Stonetreatment for cleaning and treating your terrazzo floor
We recommend Stonetreatment for cleaning and maintaining terrazzo. Stonetreatment’s products are PH-neutral and are specially developed for that particular type of natural stone.
Limescale is unavoidable. Especially if you live in a place with a high calcium content in the water. However, for the best possible prevention, we recommend impregnating the tiles before use – this makes the tiles resistant to dirt and limescale. When you have cleaned the floor with e.g. scouring cream, you must impregnate the terrazzo tiles again.
