Renovation of the architect’s own home

We’ve got a new project. Bjarke Ingels wants a home in Copenhagen and we have been asked if we will be responsible for the renovation of his houseboat. We have agreed to that and have become the main contractor on the project. It is an exciting and very different project, as it is a small old ferry that we are going to convert into a home. Here we cannot in any way use standard solutions and this requires creative solutions that are both durable and of high quality. Floors have to be poured, tiles laid, bathrooms and a number of other things. We will regularly write posts about the project and post some pictures, so you can follow the process and see what such a project and renovation entails.

Out of the box

It’s projects like these that we love to do because it challenges us in a fun way and allows us to work with different elements than the “usual”. Solutions to many problems must be found for this renovation. Both because we are dealing with a boat that, funnily enough, is on the water and that makes other demands on flexibility, but just as much to match the wishes Bjarke has for interior design and expression in his new home.

First fase

The last 14 days have been spent with demolition. Everything has largely been removed and we will soon begin the building phase. We are very much looking forward to seeing the houseboat take shape and building a home for Bjarke. Because we can’t avoid the fact that we naturally feel quite honored to be allowed to collaborate with one of the world’s leading architects. He has, in our opinion, committed many strokes of genius.

If you’re not familiar with him or his work, do yourself the favor of checking out a handful of his projects here .

Stay tuned – if you want to read more about the houseboat project. There will certainly also be inspiration to be found, even if you live in a “non-sailing” home.

Review meeting on the boat – before we tore up the floor.

Then the floor has been removed

We have cleared the entire downstairs

The stairs to the upper deck – this also needs to be removed.

The current kitchen also needs to be gutted.
